Hellmann and Chemaly Retire from Home Health Foundation Board of Trustees

Since joining the board in 2004, the Foundation said in a statement, Hellmann’s fellow members have relied on his clinical expertise regarding services, insights into healthcare trends and as an advocate for patients and the wider community. A resident of Methuen, he served on numerous committees including finance, compensation and strategic planning. In his 12 years on the board, Chemaly of Chelmsford supported Home Health Foundation with his “keen business knowledge, healthcare industry passion and community advocacy.” His committee involvement included governance and nominating, compensation and strategic planning.

Haverhill Council Expresses Frustration, Makes Case for Earlier Spending on Priorities

This was demonstrated this week in a matter showing Haverhill’s mayor and City Council do not always see eye to eye. It became apparent when Councilors Colin F. LePage and Timothy J. Jordan expressed frustration with the lack of movement on a proposal to hire a social worker to accompany police on certain calls. The request, made two months ago by Haverhill Police Chief Alan R. DeNaro, received the full support of the City Council. Since then, however, to Jordan’s dismay, the mayor has taken no action and said he’ll consider it only during the next budget, which begins July 1.

River Passenger Ship to be Known as Captain Red, Honoring Legendary Harbormaster

The new 400-passenger riverboat coming to Haverhill this spring will bear the name of Haverhill’s beloved former harbormaster William J. “Red” Slavit. The MS Captain Red, a 105-feet long, 28-feet wide vessel, is expected to dock in downtown Haverhill this spring. Tim Slavit, son of the legendary figure who died in 2008, told WHAV the “MS” stands for motor ship, demonstrating its large size. Although expected to draw a large recreational following, Slavit said the ship honors his father’s deep commitment to educating the city’s youth.
