Major ‘Solar Module Super League’ (SMSL) member JinkoSolar is targeting a significant manufacturing capacity increase, focused on accelerating its move to an ‘integrated’ production business model after many years of reliance on an ‘asset-lite’ model.
The manufacturer had become the market leader on the back of focusing capacity expansions almost exclusively on the PV module assembly segment of manufacturing, limiting wafer and solar cell expansions to keep capital expenditure low while rapidly increasing module assembly capacity in an attempt to offer low Average Selling Prices (ASPs), gaining market share as global market demand increased.

Major ‘Solar Module Super League’ (SMSL) member LONGi Solar is planning to build a new 5GW high-efficiency monocrystalline solar cell plant in Yinchuan, China.
The SMSL manufacturer already operates a 3GW cell plant in the Yinchuan Economic and Technological Development Zone, while parent company LONGi Green Energy also has a 15GW ingot/wafer production plant in the area.
LONGi said that the new cell plant was expected to be put into production in 2022, although ratification of the plans was pending. The company did not disclose the expected investment costs for the new cell production project.

JinkoSolar strengthens partnership with Tongwei

Major ‘Solar Module Super League’ (SMSL) member JinkoSolar has extended its supply chain cooperation with major polysilicon and merchant solar cell manufacturer Tongwei Group, with Tongwei gaining extra gigawatts of mono wafers from JinkoSolar.
JinkoSolar is to invest in a planned 45,000MT polysilicon expansion by Tongwei, while Tongwei will invest in a 15GW monocrystalline wafer plant planned by JinkoSolar.
JinkoSolar will hold a 35% equity share in the polysilicon plant expansion, securing further polysilicon supplies for wafer production expansions, while Tongwei will have a 30% shareholding in the wafer plant, securing with a total of around 6.5GW of mono-wafer products for three years (2021-2023) for its merchant solar cell business.
