Photo by Derek Davis/Staff Photographer A Massachusetts-based movie theater company is planning to reopen two former Cinemagic locations, in Westbrook and Saco, by the end of September. Apple Cinemas, based in the Boston area, is taking over the former Cinemagic properties on County Road in Westbrook and Route 1 in Saco, said Jegan Gomangalam, the company’s founder. Gomangalam said Tuesday that his company already has begun hiring staff for both locations and is encouraging anyone who worked at Cinemagic to apply online at [email protected]. Banners announcing the new theaters were hung at each site over the weekend.

Moviegoers in Maine have more options this month, inside and out Southern Maine drive-ins have opened for the season, and more indoor theaters will reopen later this month as Hollywood prepares to release new films. Photo by Laurie Sparham It’s spring in Maine – finally – which this year means, it’s time to get out and see some movies. Last year, when so many indoor theaters were closed because of COVID-19, drive-ins and other outdoor film venues were the only option for people to see movies on the big screen. But, also because of the pandemic, Hollywood wasn’t releasing new material, so drive-ins showed mostly old favorites.

Regal Cinemas in Brunswick and Augusta Set Reopening Dates As Maine slowly gets back to a sense of normalcy with more and more Mainers getting vaccinated against COVID-19, a lot of the activities that have been closed down are starting to open back up. L.L. Bean has taken the locks off the doors and is always open once again. The Portland Sea Dogs will have their home opener on May 4, after having to cancel the 2020 season due to COVID. And the movie theaters in Maine that still remain are opening back up as well. The Cinemagic chain of movie theaters closed for good in February. Flagship Cinemas  have opened their Falmouth, Auburn and Waterville locations with hopes to open other Maine theaters soon, and now Regal Cinemas has announced reopening dates for their theaters in Brunswick and Augusta.
