Local businesses favour a partial lockdown, especially in areas with severe infection numbers to reduce the economic impact.
Many business leaders warn a total nationwide lockdown would cause huge losses for the country s economy and massive harm for enterprises.
Careful vetting
Sanan Angubolkul, chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, said the group disagrees with reinstating nationwide restrictions to curb the spread of Covid-19, as happened during the first wave last year.
The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) is disappointed with the government's decision not to lock down virus-hit Bangkok to curb high daily infection rates after it ordered a one-month shutdown for stricken construction camps.

The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) has voiced fresh concern over the delay in the vaccination campaign due to a vaccine shortage, a setback that may erode public trust in the Prayut Chan-o-cha administration.
The worry came after many hospitals, which had prepared to vaccinate elderly people and those with chronic diseases from June 14-20, announced a delay in inoculations.
City Hall also postponed the vaccination dates from June 15 for people who registered through the Thai Ruam Jai Safe Bangkok scheme.
EconThai worried about rising underemployment

The Employers Confederation of Thai Trade and Industry (EconThai) is concerned about the growing underemployment rate that is affecting people s purchasing power after the number of unemployed individuals reached 4.3 million since the Covid-19 outbreak began in Thailand.
Underemployment refers to workers who work between 0-20 hours. They are not unemployed, according to the Labour Ministry, which is the usual measure consulted when assessing economic health.
But the rapid increase in the number of underemployed workers, which rose from 2.3 million workers in December last year to 4.3 million in March this year, caught the interest of EconThai.
