After jumping nearly 180 points in the opening session, the 30-share BSE index turned flat to trade 20.04 points or 0.04 per cent higher at 52,120.09 in initial deals. Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty advanced 29.20 points or 0.19 per cent to 15,699.45.
The S&P BSE Sensex index fell as much as 240 points to touch 51,692 in the first few minutes of trade, and the broader NSE Nifty50 benchmark fell to as low as 15,519.05, down 55 points from its previous close.
Elsewhere in Asia, bourses in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Seoul were trading in the negative territory in mid-session deals, while Tokyo was trading in the positive territory.
