Church Vandal Enters Not Guilty Pleas, Headed to Trial

By Liz Holbrook Adam Dupleasis WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The man accused of vandalizing a downtown Wausau church will head to trial. Wednesday morning 38-year-old Adam Dupleasis was in court for a preliminary hearing. Dupleasis is facing several charges including burglary of a building or dwelling, criminal damage to religious property, and battery or threat to a judge, prosecutor, or law enforcement officer. Dupleasis is accused of breaking into the First Universalist Unitarian Church in May. At the hearing, Dupleasis was bound over for arraignment and trial by the court. Dupleasis then pleaded not guilty to the 13 charges he is currently facing.

Arrest made in church vandalism case

By Chris Conley Adam Dupleasis WAUSAU, WI (WSAU)   There’s been an arrest in a church vandalism case in Wausau. Adam Dupleasis, 38, was arrested a few hours after allegedly breaking into the First Universalist Unitarian Church on Saturday, May 15. There is video footage from a security camera that shows what happened. A Wausau police report says Depleasis got into the church by throwing a brick through a pane of glass. He’s accused of using a fire extinguisher to damage the church organ. A chemical foam from the extinguisher was found in the sanctuary.  Dupleasis is charged with burglary, theft, criminal damage to a house of worship, battery to a law enforcement officer, and possession of methamphetamine. He is also charged with bail jumping from unrelated criminal charges that are pending against him.

According to a Facebook post from the First Universalist Unitarian Church in downtown Wausau, the church was the victim of vandalism on Saturday May 15th. The post written by Reverend Brian Mason on Sunday afternoon gives some information about the incident. He writes, “Late Saturday, May 15, an individual broke into the church and caused damage to several areas throughout the building that will require professional cleaning and repairs. At this point it appears that almost everything can be fixed.
