MADISON, Wis. News 3 Now’s First Warn Weather Team has been certified as Madison’s most accurate.
That’s according to WeatheRate, an independent, non-partisan weather verification company that reviews forecasts in television markets throughout the U.S.
“It takes a strong team to get the ever-changing Madison forecast right, and that’s what First Warn Weather does more than every other station in town,” WeatheRate President Bruce Fixman said. “Gary Cannalte and the First Warn Weather Team have earned our seal of approval for delivering the Most Accurate forecast in South Central Wisconsin.”
WeatheRate compared data from each TV station in Madison over the past year by monitoring conditions in the area and gathering information from weather verification sites found in or near the city. Their findings ranked News 3 Now’s First Warn Weather as the best in town.

MADISON, Wis. The next winter storm is now moving into Wisconsin, with accumulations of snow, freezing rain, and sleet, combined with gusty winds, leading to widespread Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings.
A large push of bitter cold set to follow, and it could be the coldest period since the snap of January 2019, which was influenced by the Polar Vortex. As a result, the News 3 Now First Warn Weather Team has deemed the next 9 days, through next Friday, as ALERT days.
MADISON, Wis. Confidence continues to increase that a winter storm will bring several inches snow to nearly all of Wisconsin, with a push of bitter cold set to follow, and it could be the coldest period since the snap of January 2019, which was influenced by the Polar Vortex. As a result, the News 3 Now First Warn Weather Team has deemed Thursday, and Saturday through Tuesday, ALERT days.
Winter Storm Watches are now also out for the entire area, due to a combination of falling snow, freezing rain, and strong wind gusts upwards of 40 mph.
TIMING AND IMPACTS:
As of now, this system looks to arrive during the morning hours of Thursday in the west, and spreading eastward towards Madison during the morning. Initially, a wintry mix is expected before a changeover to all snow. This is the period where light icing may occur.
