Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met with Mark Milley, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Presidential Palace, late on Wednesday.
In this meeting First-Vice President Amrullah Saleh, NSA Hamdullah Mohib, Chief of Army Staff Mohammad Yasin Zia, AOP Director General Fazel Fazly, chargé d’affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, General Commander of the Resolute Support Mission General Scott Miller were present.
In the meeting, both sides expressed their concerns over the escalation of violence in Afghanistan and discussed the Afghan peace process and the immediate need for a ceasefire in the country.

Afghan President Invites Taliban to Kandahar to Discuss Peace
President Ashraf Ghani on Thursday invited the Taliban to Kandahar province to hold a discussion about bringing peace to Afghanistan.
In a trip to the southern Kandahar province on Thursday, Ghani said that if the Taliban is willing to bring peace, they can come to Kandahar to hold talks with the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
Ghani said that the Afghan people will not allow a further release of Taliban prisoners, as the group has not reduced violence.

In this videoconference, the First Lady, First Vice President Amrullah Saleh, Foreign Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar, NSA Hamdullah Mohib and Director General of Administrative Office of President Fazel Fazly were present and Ms. Roya Rahmani Ambassador of Afghanistan to the United States was connected to the meeting as well.
Both sides talked about the US continued support to Afghanistan, peace process and next steps and the rights of women.
Lawmakers Threaten to Drop Code 91 from Next Year s Budget
Following criticism about the spending of the Code 91 budgetary unit’s fund by the government, the financial and budget committee of the Wolesi Jirga, the lower house of the Afghan parliament, on Monday threatened to not allocate money for the emergency code funds in the next fiscal year’s budget plan.
The funds for Code 91 are allocated from the national budget every year.
A report published last week by Etilaatroz newspaper states that over Afs2 billion ($25.9 million) from the government s emergency fund known as Code 91 was spent for the personal expenses of over a dozen government officials in the solar year 1398 (March 2019 to March 2020).
