Tech-U VC, DVC bag climate change research awards Published 16 March 2021 The Vice-Chancellor of the First Technical University, Ibadan, Prof. Ayobami Salami, will on Wednesday receive the ‘Champion in Climate Change Research’ award. According to a statement on Monday, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Adesola Ajayi, will also receive the award, alongside 15 other scholars who have worked in various areas of climate change. The award, according to the statement is to be given at the event holding at the University of Ibadan in recognition of their services on Climate Change Research. “This award is supported by the Association of Commonwealth Universities, UK, under CIRCLE Programme being funded by DFID, UK,” the organisers said in the statement.

NUC approves forensic science, 13 other courses for Tech-U varsity

Share THE National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the running of Forensic Science and 13 other environmental/engineering courses at the First Technical University (Tech-U), Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. Based on the approval, the institution has become the first university to offer the course in Nigeria after the Nigerian Police Academy. The approval was contained in a letter from the NUC dated February 10, 2021, based on a recent verification exercise the commission conducted at the university. According to a statement issued by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Akeem Lasisi, the other 13 newly approved courses include Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial and Production Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Science Laboratory Technology and Quantity Surveying.

Share The Chancellor of First Technical University, Ibadan, Chief Tunde Alabi has called on Federal Government and other stakeholders in the education sector to improve the country’s educational system. Alabi stated that revitalising the education sector will make more Nigerians developed and civilized. He made this call on Monday while speaking at a farewell programme organised for the late First Tech-U Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Prof Oye Ibidapo-Obe. Alabi noted that that late Ibidapo-Obe convinced many to support and invest in the nation’s education sector, describing him as a dedicated scholar and administrator who lived to move the education sector forward.

Professor Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe: Our shared dream Ayobami Salami Before May 2017 when I was appointed the Pioneer Vice Chancellor, First Technical University, Ibadan, I only knew Professor Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe by his reputation, earned through his unassailable credentials. Shortly after my appointment, the then Governor of Oyo State and Visitor to the University, Senator Abiola Ajimobi (of the blessed memory), invited me for a meeting in his office to discuss my plans for the university. At the meeting were a few government officials, including the then Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Olalekan Alli. The governor then told me he was planning to appoint a substantive Pro-Chancellor for the university and he wanted my suggestion(s).

Akin Aboluwade The aggrieved workers of The Polytechnic, Ibadan under the aegis of the Joint Implementation Committee on new minimum wage and consequential adjustment has rejected the Memorandum of Understanding, MOU  purportedly signed between the Oyo State Government and the Joint Action Committee of state-owned tertiary institutions on behalf of the workers. The MOU, which was jointly signed by Olasunkanmi Olaleye, Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology; Prof. Adekunle Akinyemi, Chairman, Governing Council, The Polytechnic, Ibadan; Prof. M. Odedokun, Chairman, Governing Council, Emmanuel Alayande College of Education,  Oyo, among others, read in part that the new minimum wage payable to all academic and non academic staff in the state-owned tertiary institutions shall be N36,500 per month effective January 1, 2020 with first payment (to have been made) in December 2020 while the arrears shall be paid in tranches of not more than three instalments.
