SunStar File May 14, 2021 MALAPASCUA ISLAND, Cebu – The Department of Tourism in Central Visayas (DOT 7) is bent on reviving diving as one of the major tourist draws in Cebu post-pandemic, as it kicked off the third leg of the DIVE7 Summer Festivals in this famous diving destination.
During the launch of the event late Thursday afternoon participated by diving stakeholders in Cebu, DOT 7 Director Shahlimar Tamano announced the government’s plan to restore Cebu’s well-known image as a diving destination.
Tamano said the diving industry in the Philippines, particularly in Central Visayas, is one of the key economic drivers in tourism.

Philippines voted Worldâs Leading Tourism Destination in Uzakrota Global Awards

The Philippines has been voted the Worldâs Leading Country Tourism Destination in the recently concluded 10th Uzakrota Global Travel Awards.
Uzakrota Travel Awards, the global initiative that seeks to recognize and reward excellence in travel and tourism, unveiled on February 8, 2021, its “Best of the Year” awardees determined by online public vote.
The Philippines was declared the winner of the Worldâs Leading Country Tourism Destination Award with 1,733 votes, outranking countries Turkey and The Dominican Republic in second and third place, respectively.

Maldives, on Tuesday, was conferred the “Best International Island Holiday Destination” award by International Travel Awards 2020.
Upon receiving this award, the Managing Director of Visit Maldives Thoyyib Mohamed, remarked “We are immensely grateful to the International Travel Awards for giving us this recognition.
“Our team and the entire tourism industry have been working towards making Maldives one of the safest and most preferred destinations to travel to this year, and these tributes are proof of our success.”

“The Philippines as an archipelago, at the center of the coral triangle, is home to biologically diverse marine and aquatic resources. We are proud to have a dive destination that has it all,” Puyat said in the recently concluded Dive Philippines webinar series.
To date, the Philippines currently has around 300 dive sites. Some of these have been recognized globally, including the UNESCO’s World Heritage Site Tubbataha Reef Natural Park in Palawan, Apo Reef Natural Park in Occidental Mindoro, Malapascua Island in Cebu, Anilao dive sites in Batangas, and the Verde Island Passage in Puerto Galera.
