Instead of a big wedding cake, the two decided on gelato for dessert.

They stand behind a metal counter at George Rouman’s gelato kitchen with a bucket full of tiny plastic spoons to sample the Italian ice cream flavors.
“That’s really creamy,” Neubauer commented.
The two have already booked a venue, picked out flowers and finalized invitations.
“We kind of used COVID to our advantage because we didn’t want a big wedding in the first place,” Neubauer said.
Wedding planning has gone smoothly for the couple, who got engaged about a year ago.
RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU-WXPR) â If youâre hoping to give mom a bouquet of freshly cut flowers this Motherâs Day, you might have a harder time than normal finding what youâre looking for. Prices will likely be higher as well
Thatâs because a flower shortage is putting some florists in a tough spot.
Ruth Hempel is the owner of Forth Floral in Rhinelander. âWe grow some of our own flowers and that helps a lot, but we havenât been able to get things like other years.â
Hempel says flowers like roses and carnations are harder to come by this year, which is driving prices up.

“I haven’t been able to get things as easily as other years,” Ruth Hempel, the owner of Forth Floral in Rhinelander, said. “Yeah, there is a cut flower shortage this year.”
Hempel said plants like eucalyptus, carnations and roses are all harder to come by this year.
Why?
“Part of it goes back to COVID,” Hempel said. “Because there was a lot of uncertainty in the market last spring, some growers didn’t keep up their crops, or they didn’t plant or they had worker shortages. With flowers you have to plant months and months ahead for a crop, so things that happened last summer can be affecting what’s happening now in the market.”

Star Journal Still time to take in the orchid show at Forth Floral
Editor
The days are lengthening, the sun feels warmer than it did even a month ago, and winter turns to spring this month – all good things. Digging in the dirt, planting flowers and vegetables and enjoying the fruits of those labors, however, are still months away.
Fortunately, Forth Floral’s annual orchid show is perfectly timed to give flower enthusiasts a reason to brave the cold and enjoy the warmth and humidity of summer, albeit temporarily.
Forth Floral owners Ruth and Henning Hempel began the orchid show about 20 years ago. Though it’s not a large show, Ruth said they enjoy hosting it.
