He was 86. Huq, who served as the chief of Bangladesh Navy from 1972 to 1973, had been suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes, said an ISPR handout. He was set to be buried at Banani military graveyard after his namaz-e-janaza at the Naval Headquarters mosque after Zuhr prayers today. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Huq. She prayed for the eternal salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy for his bereaved family members.

His namaz-e-janaza will be held at Naval Headquarters mosque after Zuhr prayers. He will be buried at Banani military graveyard. Nurul Huq also served as the chairman of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA).
