Former Red Wings Goalie Jimmy Howard Retires

Former Red Wings Goalie Jimmy Howard Retires Former Detroit Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard (pictured) announced his retirement from professional hockey on Thursday after 14 seasons with the organization. Howard took over for Chris Osgood in the 2009-10 season as the lead goalie after spending four seasons with the AHL s Grand Rapids Griffins (the Wings top minor league affiliate).  And he shared time with Petr Mrazek (now with the Carolina Hurricanes) for several years after that. Jimmy was drafted in the second round by the team in 2003 and played his college hockey at Maine.  He was a free agent this past offseason.  But after considering an offer from the Edmonton Oilers, Howard has decided to hang up his goalie pads.
