In a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Fadnavis demanded that journalists and cameramen should be declared as frontline workers and given priority in vaccination. The BJP leader also said that several journalists have been making a demand and have also registered an online protest. In the first wave, we lost several journalists and many have lost lives in the second wave. In such conditions, it is our responsibility to take care of them. If they are declared frontline workers, they will get priority in vaccination.

He said the previous Devendra Fadnavis-led state government had formed the Backward Class Commission which recommended to consider the Maratha community as backward on three fronts - social, economic, and educational. The Fadnavis government then enacted the law (in 2018) giving reservation to the Maratha community in jobs and education, which was later challenged in the Bombay High Court.
