Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has urged the federal government to arrest controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi over his roles in demanding amnesty for bandits.
The controversial cleric has been criticised by Nigerians for his position that the government should negotiate with bandits and yield to their demands.
Many Nigerians had also called for Gumi s arrest following his recent comment on the abduction of Greenfield University students.
Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has called on the Federal Government to invite the renowned Islamic cleric, Ahmad Abubakar Gumi for questioning over his alleged tie with bandits and other criminal elements.
The human rights lawyer alleged that the controversial cleric must have been benefiting from ransoms paid to the abductors (bandits) for the release of their captives.
In a series of tweets on Wednesday, Fani-Kayode while reacting to a confession by a parent of one of the abducted Kaduna student said, Gumi should be interrogated over his activities with the criminals.
According to him, a TV station quoted a mother of the student saying, “They took us to Gumi’s house. He directed us to Ahmad who invited a Fulani from Kaduna. We contributed N800,000 for him. He told us that it was just for transport. I cried & pleaded with him, saying I’m a widow. He said it wasn’t his concern.”
(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has berated the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, for threatening to launch attacks in the Southeast concerning the alleged killing of its members residing in the region.
It would be recalled that the group, through its National Secretary, Engr. Saleh Alhassan, in a statement on Thursday, revealed that Nnamdi Kanu and the members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB “will pay dearly for the mindless massacre” of not less than 50 herdsmen recently.
Reacting, Fani- Kayode took to his Twitter account on Friday describing the threat as disgusting, adding that the fight would be different from the 1967 civil war as the Igbos are not alone in this.
Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode says many Nigerians and leaders cannot challenge those in power due to fear.
The former presidential aide made the remark in a chat with Naija Lives Matter Hotseat hosted by Ope Banwo.
He also declared there is no distinction between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The government critic said this was the reason he relates with individuals who can move Nigeria forward.
The politician described former Governors Bola Tinubu, Bukola Saraki, Governor Nasir El-Rufai, among others as party crossers..
“I don’t join parties simply because I want to be on the winning side. If I choose to leave a party, it’s for a reason.”
