Navy arrests 24 with adulterated diesel in Ondo

Punch Newspapers Sections Peter Dada, Akure The Forward Operating Base of the Nigerian Navy in Igbokoda, headquarters of the Ilaje Local Government of Ondo State, has arrested 24 suspects with 100,000 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil, also known as diesel, in the Ondo/Lagos coastal area. It was gathered that the patrol team of the naval base intercepted six boats, which were conveying the suspects and the product. The Commanding Officer of the naval base, Navy Captain Shaibu Ahmed, said the six boats were owned by bunkerers. According to him, one of the boats contained 150 drums of illegally refined diesel, while another wooden boat contained 16 tanks of 4,500 litres of diesel.

James Sowole in Akure The Nigeria Navy said its patrol team of the Operation Base (FOB), Igbokoda, Ondo State, has intercepted six boats loaded with over 100,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil, popularly known as diesel along Ondo/Lagos coastal axis. The Navy said the 24 suspected oil thieves conveying the diesel were nabbed at Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area. The Commanding Officer of the FOB, Navy Captain Shaibu Mohammed Ahmed, who paraded the suspects, said some of the boats seized by the Navy were full of empty drums. He said the suspects were arrested on January 13 at about 4pm along the open sea channel.

Parading the suspects as well as the intercepted boats at the Naval Base in Igbokoda, the Commanding Officer of the Base, Captain Shaibu Mohammed Ahmed, said the six boats were carrying illegally refined crude oil, owned by suspects involved in bunkering.
