On Wednesday, the Bombay High Court
stayed further implementation of an October 1 order by the Mumbai (Suburbs) Collector that had transferred 102 acres in Kanjurmarg for the 33.5-km underground Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro car-shed. The High Court admitted the Centre’s petition that the land was an erstwhile salt pan land belonging to it, and took on record claims on the plot staked by two private parties. The relocation to Kanjurmarg had been announced by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

Mumbai: Even as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has launched a survey to shift Metro 3 carshed to Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) from Kanjurmarg, a section of officers from the finance and urban development department and transport experts have raised the feasibility of the project. They have cited time and cost overrun apart from viability as the operator will incur huge losses as the metro trains will have to run empty from SEEPZ to BKC car shed.

Mumbai: The Centre government has not sanctioned any funds whatsoever for the cleaning and development of Mumbai’s sole flowing water body, the River Mithi, as per an RTI reply.
Mithi River had created a huge havoc during the great floods of July 26, 2005, when it submerged even the Mumbai international airport and other areas in its path.
Thereafter, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) had sought central assistance of Rs 1,657.11 crore to clean, and develop it, as well as for sewerage management and other aspects.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has directed the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to explore alternative sites for Metro 3 car shed, an official said on Friday. The direction comes in the wake of the Bombay High Court on Wednesday staying the order passed by the Mumbai suburban district collector allotting 102 acres of salt pan land in suburban Kanjurmarg for the construction of an integrated metro car shed.
