Police seeking man they believe was struck by CHP officers gunfire after pursuit in Serra Mesa

SAN DIEGO    San Diego police are looking for an 18-year-old man they believe was struck by gunfire after two California Highway Patrol officers fired their guns at an SUV that rammed into their patrol vehicle. Police asked the public to help find the man “to ensure he receives adequate medical treatment,” Lt. Matt Dobbs said. The lieutenant said investigators also want to interview him. Dobbs said police have talked to the man over the phone, and that he said he had been shot. The man was a passenger in the SUV, which was stolen in a carjacking in Escondido about two hours before the vehicle was involved in a pursuit that led to the shooting in Serra Mesa.

CHP officers shot at car after pursuit ends in Serra Mesa

SAN DIEGO     Two California Highway Patrol officers fired their guns after a SUV they had been chasing early Monday rammed their patrol car in Serra Mesa, authorities said. No one was hit by the gunfire. One of the officers suffered minor injuries when he was pinned by the door of his patrol car but was treated and released, according to San Diego police. The incident began shortly after midnight when officers spotted a red Acura MDX speeding and swerving on Interstate 805 near Murray Ridge Road and tried to pull it over. There were two passengers inside the SUV. The driver was directed to pull off onto Phyllis Street but when officers began to approach the vehicle, the Acura took off, said San Diego police Lt. Matt Dobbs.
