Govt urged to provide bailout package to UoP

PESHAWAR: People’s Students Federation (PSF) has asked the government to take steps for making the University of Peshawar (UoP) financially strong institution again.
Through a statement issued here, PSF Peshawar University president Syed Ziauddin held a meeting with the vice-chancellor Muhammad Idrees at his office.
The student leader also discussed the issue of hostels and scholarships with the VC. He also complained of the administration’s apathy towards the students issues.
The VC assured the students of resolving their problems. However, he added that the university was finding it difficult to resolve most of the problems due to the government refusal to provide a bailout package to the university.

PAC asks audit authorities to focus on good governance

PESHAWAR: Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has asked the audit and accounts authorities to focus on performance audit with the sole aim to ensure good governance and eradicate corruption from the public sector organisations.
The committee, however, expressed satisfaction on the recovery ratios of the Food Department and especially lauded its steps for increasing supply of wheat in the nook and corner of the province as well as normalising its rate during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.
The observation was made during a meeting of the PAC on disposing audit paras on fiscal anomalies in Food Department. The meeting was chaired by MPA Muhammad Idrees at KP Assembly Secretariat in Peshawar. MPA Inayatullah, and high ups of the Food, Law, Finance, Accounts & Audit departments were also present.

Special price control magistrate arrested five shopkeepers on the charges of profiteering and overcharging on Thursday.
A spokesman for the local administration said that during inspection, the special magistrate found shopkeeper Muhammad Ramzan involved in selling okra for Rs200 per kilogramme instead of its fixed rate of Rs120 per kg in D-Type Colony, while fruit-seller Shehbaz was selling apple for Rs150 per kg instead of its fixed rate of Rs110 per kg.
Similarly, shopkeeper Muhammad Qamar was found selling lemon for Rs400 per kg instead of its fixed rate of Rs300 per kg in Bismillah Chowk, whereas milkmen Muhammad Ramzan and Muhammad Idrees were found selling milk for Rs100 per litre instead of its fixed price Rs90 per litre.
