Supermarkets are safe - but shoppers should still follow basic rule say Suffolk s public sector leaders.

Take care when you get to the supermarket - and follow the rules to stay safe . . . even if you ve had your first Covid injection.
That s the blunt message from Suffolk s public sector leaders who fear people could be tempted into making too many visits to their local supermarkets - risking spreading the new variant of the disease.
Supermarkets are among the few shops that can continue trading during the lockdown but members of the Suffolk Resilience Forum are anxious to ensure that the people don t see a trip to them is seen as an excuse for a social activity.

Covid-19 rates are continuing to rise across every part of Suffolk, with a further 2,100 positive tests in the week up to December 28.
However, the rate of increase in Babergh has appeared to slow, according to the government s most recent round of data.
Babergh currently has the highest number of infections in the county with 373.8 per 100,000 people in the seven days up to December 28.
However, the rise in positive tests has only seen a slight increase, up 44.6 since the week ending December 21.

The Suffolk Resilience Forum is calling on the population to abide by coronavirus guidelines at New Years

Suffolk s resilience forum has issued a plea for people to comply with Tier 4 rules over New Year, as the county reaches a critical point in its coronavirus battle.
The resilience forum, made up of local authorities, police and health agencies, made the plea as Suffolk continues to see record numbers of coronavirus cases – with the latest wave of coronavirus putting increased strain on the local healthcare system.
As of December 30, 327 people were being treated for the virus in Suffolk s hospitals – while around 370 people are testing positive for the virus in the county every day on average.
