Weapons pulled, man belted in alleged home invasion

Premium Content Subscriber only Guns were allegedly pulled on the victim of a violent home invasion where entry was forced at a Yandina residence. Sunshine Coast CIB officer-in-charge Daren Edwards said a 56-year-old man sustained facial injuries in the alleged incident. Detective Senior Sergeant Edwards said two men had allegedly entered the Cordwell Road home about 8.30pm on Sunday and used firearms to force entry into the residence. He said the man was allegedly belted around the head multiple times.

He said people weren t getting the message of what can result from such actions. Detective Senior Sergeant Edwards said the victim s face required extensive reconstructive surgery and other medical interventions to piece it back together. His partner says they were trying to walk home when they were approached by the suspect who punched him for no reason, Sergeant Edwards said. The accused, a 27-year-old Baringa man was on Tuesday, March 30 charged with one count of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm. He was granted bail with conditions and is due to face the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on May 13. More Stories

Accountant allegedly rips off $3m from Coast couple

Premium Content Subscriber only A Sunshine Coast couple have lost nearly $3m in superannuation after an accountant allegedly transferred their investment funds for personal use in property and lifestyle benefits. A 68-year-old man was arrested in Brisbane and charged with fraud after allegedly misappropriating the self-managed super fund between 2013 and 2019. Sunshine Coast CIB officer-in-charge Daren Edwards said the man had transferred about $2.8m which belonged to the long term local couple. Detective Senior Sergeant Edwards said the couple had entrusted money with the Coast-based company, where the man was employed as an accountant. It s a big company, with offices everywhere, and the victims were clients of that company, Sergeant Edwards said.
