Trinamool Congress leader Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay submitted his resignation
Senior Trinamool Congress leader Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay on Friday tendered his resignation from Bhabanipur Assembly constituency in Kolkata, triggering speculation that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee may contest byelections from the constituency in next few months.
Ms. Banerjee had represented Bhabanipur in 2011 and 2016. In the 2021 Assembly polls, however, she chose to contest from Nandigram and lost by a narrow margin 1,956 votes to the former TMC leader, who moved to the BJP, Suvendu Adhikari.

Senior Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee on Monday urged party supporters to follow the law and refrain from violating the lockdown norms as they demonstrated in various parts of West Bengal against the arrest of two state ministers and an MLA.
Abhishek, a Lok Sabha MP who is the nephew of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, said his party will fight the battle legally as it has utmost faith in the judiciary.

West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Thursday visited areas affected by post-poll violence in Cooch Behar. He went ahead with the visit despite Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressing her disapproval, calling it “unilateral proceedings” by the Governor which is “violative of long-standing norms of procedures”. Senior Trinamool Congress leaders on Thursday sharply criticised the Governor’s move.

Senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Aditya Niyogi, a noted leader from the Bansbedia area in Hooghly of West Bengal was shot at by unknown miscreants. The incident has triggered tension in the Bansbedia area.
Niyogi was riding his motorcycle when some unknown miscreants fired upon him from behind and he suffered injuries on the back and waist. A large number of locals rushed to the spot after hearing the screams of the TMC leader. The attackers then fled the spot.
TMC leader and local MLA Tapan Dasgupta said that Niyogi has been seriously injured and is undergoing treatment at the Apollo Hospital in Kolkata. The bullets have been removed from his body and the condition of the TMC leader has stabilised.
