Sutton retires from administrative post in Frenchtown

Sutton retires from administrative post in Frenchtown Rosemary Sutton, a familiar face at the Frenchtown Township Hall where she greeted visitors every day, has retired from her position as administrative assistant to the supervisor after 4 ½ years. Sutton, who was born and raised in Monroe and lives in Monroe Township, worked her last day in March. Taking her place was Natalie (Zieske) Askar. Sutton, 72, worked for both former Supervisor Jim McDevitt and current Supervisor Al VanWassehnova. She was known as the “trash Lady” because she often answered questions from callers about refuse and yard waste pickups in the township as well as upcoming elections. Since May of 2020, she also checked the temperature of all visitors to the hall as part of safety protocols the township launched to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

OPINION COLUMN: Celebrating volunteers for their heroic efforts

OPINION COLUMN: Celebrating volunteers for their heroic efforts Nicole Long April is National Volunteer Month, a time to celebrate the individuals who generously donate their time and effort to make a difference in the lives of so many. At Old Colony Elder Services (OCES), a private, nonprofit organization, we honor more than 700 volunteers who are dedicated to providing essential services to older adults, individuals with disabilities and others throughout the 23 communities we serve. OCES volunteers are community members of all ages, ranging from retirees to employees of local businesses seeking outreach opportunities, to students and others. Our volunteers support a number of programs. For example, we have over 400 volunteers in our Nutrition Program delivering “Meals on Wheels” to homebound recipients on a daily basis.
