LIVE venues and theatres in Ryedale are excited to open their doors following an extremely tough year. In plans set out by Boris Johnson to ease the UK’s third COVID-19 national lockdown, it was heard that indoor performances will reopen in stage three of the new roadmap, “with social distancing”. Many concert halls and theatres are preparing to reopen from May 17, with an eagerly anticipated summer programme. Helmsley Arts Centre (HAC) has announced their plans to reopen on May 18 (Tuesday) with a range of activities, cinema screenings and live performances. It’s certainly been an extremely tough year, said Natasha Jones, artistic director at HAC.
By Tricia Harris Manager of Helmsley Walled Garden
COLIN DILCOCK This month Tricia Harris welcomes the reopening of Helmsley Walled Garden and the start of spring EVERY season has particular joys for me and if I were pushed to pick my favourite I would say early autumn. The scent of autumn, the long evenings with fabulous sunsets and harvest moons, the whisper of a chill in the air and the garden wrapping itself up for winter slumber just wins by a nose. But spring is wonderful: the feeling of life stirring, the green noses of bulbs and perennials pushing through the soil, signalling the return of colour to the borders and the sheer vibrancy of it all after winters muted tones really lifts my spirits.
