UPDATE: The Minnesota State Patrol responded to 59 crashes and 153 vehicles off roadways from 9 p.m. on Wednesday until 6 a.m. on Thursday.
Eight jackknifed semis were also reported during the time frame.

The state patrol is also reminding drivers to be prepare as the road conditions are still dangerous and to have a winter travel survival kit along with other winter gear and clothing inside the vehicle.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) Gov. Tim Walz has authorized the Minnesota National Guard to provide emergency services amid a Christmas Eve Eve blizzard that’s left some motorists stranded on Minnesota roads.
The guard is activated in Renville and Martin Counties, where two major highways were closed due to winter winds and whiteout conditions. The guard is also utilizing the armories in Olivia and Fairmount as places of shelter for motorists rescued from stuck vehicles.
On Wednesday afternoon, the National Weather Service expanded the state’s blizzard warning to include the Twin Cities metro area. In addition to the Twin Cities, much of western, southern and central Minnesota are under a blizzard warning until midnight or Thursday morning. The real factor is the

A major winter storm blasts through Minnesota Wednesday, and the combination of snow and high winds are causing low visibility and even whiteout conditions that make travel treacherous.

A strong weather system is making its way across Minnesota Wednesday morning, with both the low and cold front expect to be through the state by midday.

Winds with the storm already picked up overnight and continue to intensify on the backside of the storm. Much of the state can expect high winds gusting over 40 and 50 mph by Wednesday afternoon, with gusts over 60 mph likely near the North Dakota border.
