Economic Standing Policy Committee finishes day four of deliberations - Medicine Hat NewsMedicine Hat News

The Economic Standing Policy Committee of city council Capital Improvement Project deliberations for the 2022-2032 cycle continued on Day Four Thursday with several significant initiatives recommended for approval. A majority of SPC members chose to go electric by recommending the funding of the replacement of the current diesel City bus fleet with electric buses over the next 10 years. The total cost of the replacement program would be $19.4 million between 2022-2025, with a total cost of $37 million needed over the next ten years. This cost would include the buses themselves and all charging infrastructure needed to keep them running. SPC members were reassured by City transit staff that the federal government will likely be approving significant grants to municipalities to help encourage the electric bus change in order to help meet Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions commitments.

(Source: City and County of Honolulu) By HNN Staff | May 7, 2021 at 8:37 PM HST - Updated May 7 at 8:37 PM HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - The city will be closing the pathway along the mauka side of the Honolulu Zoo beginning next week as crews work to replace a deteriorating asphalt sidewalk. Officials said the pathway, which stretches approximately 1,500 feet along Paki Avenue from Kapahulu to Monsaratt avenues, has been damaged from trees along the sidewalk and heavy pedestrian use. As part of a Capital Improvement Project, Kaikor Construction Company was contracted to build a new wider concrete sidewalk.

City officials hope to move up a study on Memorial Hall by a year

A comprehensive “use and rehabilitation study” for Hutchinson’s Memorial Hall remains a top priority of the Hutchinson Landmark Commission. Such a study, however, is potentially two years away unless the city qualifies for a historic preservation grant, which could move the plan up by a year, Ryan Hvitlok, director of Planning & Development, advised the Hutchinson City Council on Tuesday. The discussion was part of a presentation on the Landmark Commissions’ three-year plan, which the council adopted with some modification. Funding for the Memorial Hall study, estimated to cost $50,000 to $60,000, has been in the city’s Capital Improvement Project list for a couple of years, Hvitlok said, with the spending currently scheduled for 2023.
