As the current third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic continues, it’s more important than ever for everyone to do what they can to prevent further spread of this virus in our community. I strongly encourage all residents who are eligible to get vaccinated. After a short delay and re-scheduling due to supply, I was able to receive my first dose of vaccine last week. Vaccines are proven to be safe and highly effective at preventing COVID-19. Getting vaccinated will help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in community and will allow our economy to get back on track.

The El Paso City Council voted in favor, 6-2, to approve three bond ordinances, Tuesday evening.
The bond measures authorized more than $141 million in general obligation bonds and certificates of obligation to complete or begin deferred capital improvement projects that were approved by voters and city councilors. A certificate of obligation is debt issued without voters approval and is repaid through tax revenue.
The council s action will have no impact on the city s tax rate, a news statement from the city read. This is a really great opportunity for the city from a financial standpoint, El Paso Chief Financial Officer Robert Cortinas said. This opportunity is to take advantage of really low interest rates right now.

Metro is reminding Green and Yellow line customers to plan ahead for scheduled track work May 1-9 that will require free shuttle buses to replace trains at four stations over one weekend and the weeklong closure of West Hyattsville. The work will upgrade the interlocking system at Fort Totten, which allows trains to safely cross from one track to another.
