That’s according to UWI Vice Chancellor Sir Hilary Beckles, who said UWI will be a “different kind of academy”. This strategy, he said, will enable UWI to be more agile in capturing opportunities to enhance its financial health while promoting the diversity of development discourses in the region. Beckles called upon the region to recognise the work undertaken by the teams on all campuses across the region in transitioning the University to full online/remote teaching and management, enabling students to progress through their programmes of study.

In a release issued on Monday, Beckles said the post-covid19 university would embrace the “communications and production technology” to enhance its financial sustainability as it moved to 2025-2030. “Only a re-engineered UWI will be able to deliver even more effectively on the region’s development agenda.” In November, Beckles addressed his colleagues at a strategic planning retreat and outlined the very significant steps which have already been taken as the university prepares for global competition.
