Northern NDP MPPs were assigned new critic roles in the official opposition by leader Andrea Horwath this week, in a move she said will help Northern families get through the COVID-19 pandemic.
The NDP also created a new portfolio to focus on Northern roads and transportation challenges.

MPP Jamie West (Sudbury) is now the critic for Northern infrastructure, transportation and roads, while MPP Michael Mantha (Algoma-Manitoulin) has taken on a new role as tourism critic, along with Northern development. MPP Gilles Bisson (Timmins) is now the critic for community safety and correctional services.

Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Michael Mantha is taking on the role of tourism critic along with Northern Development.
Mantha says tourism is the lifeblood of many communities in the North and the industry has been devastated by the pandemic and its effect on businesses, especially small businesses.

Constance Lake First Nation is declaring a second COVID-19 state of emergency after 11 cases have appeared in the small community in less than a week. For a community that has not had cases for the past 10 months, and with a number of cases in our community affecting children, we are alarmed, but we are urging calm, Chief Rick Allen said.
