CHARLOTTE, N.C. In Mecklenburg County, which is now under a public health directive, the debate over in-person learning continues.
“What we’re saying in this directive is that any gathering of individuals in our community right now puts people at risk…that involves schools, restaurants, bars, even places of work, and places of worship,” said Mecklenburg County Public Health Director Gibbie Harris.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Mecklenburg County Public Health Director Gibbie Harris announced Wednesday the county saw its youngest COVID-19 death so far in the pandemic this week. We had a 22-year-old die of COVID-19 in our community,” Harris said in a news conference Wednesday morning. “That is not acceptable.
Few details were provided about the young adult, but Harris said the person did have underlying health conditions.
“The main emphasis from a public health perspective right now is to try to get this virus under control,” Harris added.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Mecklenburg County’s Parks and Recreation facilities will be closing some facilities to the public until at least the end of January.
The closures, effective Friday, Jan. 15, will affect all indoor services. Parks will remain open until dusk every day.
“As we’ve all seen, our COVID-19 numbers are continuing to rise, and Mecklenburg County government wants to not only comply with the directive, but to set an example in the community we can encourage others to follow,” County Manager Dena Diorio said during a press conference on Thursday.
