Bump moves to $10.50 on Jan. 1, 2021 Headlight staff reports ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS) advises employers and workers that New Mexico’s minimum wage is increasing, effective Friday, January 1st, 2021. This increase is in accordance with an amendment to the New Mexico Minimum Wage Act signed into law by Governor Lujan Grisham on April 1, 2019. Beginning January 1, 2021: • State tipped minimum wage: $2.55 per hour Governor Lujan Grisham, and the rest of this administration, believe strongly that a fair day s work deserves a fair day s pay, said Bill McCamley, NMDWS Cabinet Secretary. If COVID has shown us anything, it’s that our low wage workers like grocery store employees, janitors, bus drivers, and health care heroes keeping our communities going deserve a raise now more than ever. New Mexico Workforce Solutions Awaits Labor Department Guidance On Implementation Of CARES Act Extension NMDWS News: ALBUQUERQUE – The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS) is reviewing the CARES Act unemployment extension provisions contained in H.R. 133. These provisions bring additional unemployment compensation to more than 160,000 New Mexicans. “The Department of Workforce Solutions will work as hard as possible to get these extension and increases in place as soon as we receive necessary rules and funding from the U.S. Department of Labor,” NMDWS Cabinet Secretary Bill McCamley said. “We know how vital this money is to New Mexicans and will get it into people’s pockets as soon as possible so bills can get paid.”

Courtesy/LANL LANL News: Student scientists at Monte del Sol Charter School earned a $4,500 cash prize awarded by Los Alamos National Laboratory judges in the New Mexico Governor’s STEM Challenge with their project, “Garbage to Gas: Using Biodigesters to Create Energy”. “The STEM Challenge’s team-based approach of applying science, technology, engineering and math to address real needs is a microcosm of what we do at the Laboratory every day,” Laboratory Director Thom Mason said. “I congratulate the teachers and student scientists of Monte del Sol Charter School and thank our partners for organizing this innovative contest.”
