Workforce Connection of Central New Mexico Chairman Jerry Schalow is also the CEO of the Rio Rancho Regional Chamber of Commerce. He has identified labor gaps, situations in which the community doesn’t have enough qualified workers, around technology, information technology, medical care and manufacturing. Workforce Connection of Central New Mexico provides resources for people exploring career opportunities and offers support to local job providers, according to its website, Schalow explained a program that will allow Workforce Connection applicants to receive funding to take courses related to labor gaps.

May 11 at 7:05 PM With 11 years invested in Santa Fe Community College’s solar energy program, it came as quite the shock when the college gave Xubi Wilson a letter two weeks ago informing him that his position, along with the solar program, would be discontinued at the end of this school year. The college says it will ensure all currently enrolled students finish the program, but will not take on future students and will not keep involved professors on staff full time. As the solar program director, Wilson has worked hard to refine and fund the program which he believes will serve the community and state for years to come, given trends in the clean energy industry.

By Natalie Alms May 12, 2021 Thanks to $2 billion in funding in the American Rescue Plan Act, states can start modernizing their legacy unemployment insurance benefits systems. State leaders, however, say that funding and federal involvement isn t enough. New Mexico modernized its UI system in 2013 and has tried to pursue continuous modernization and improvement since then, said Sue Anne Athens, CIO in New Mexico s Department of Workforce Solutions, at an event hosted by GovExec. Unfortunately, federal funds can t necessarily be used for continuous improvement, which can be a constraint, she said. I think there is this vision that there ll be a great modernized system that the feds can come up with, she said, but “at the end of the day, the state owns the UI system. It owns the processes. It has the subject matter expertise on the ground.
