ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. New Mexico’s unemployment rate held steady at 8.3% in March, according to newly released data from the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions.
The state’s unemployment rate was tied for third-highest in the nation in March, behind Hawaii and New York, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The national unemployment rate was 6.0% in March, according to BLS.
In New Mexico, total non-agricultural payroll employment fell by 65,600 jobs, or 7.7%, since March 2020, according to DWS. Leisure and hospitality continued to report the heaviest employment losses, shedding 18.9% of total jobs since March 2020.
Employment in the mining, logging and construction sector declined, by 13.6%, with mining and logging â a sectors that includes much of the state’s oil and gas industry â accounting for the majority of the losses, according to the state workforce
