Summer school programs prove to be popular, most districts programs full

ROGUE VALLEY, Ore. School districts across Oregon are keeping students busy in fun and engaging ways this summer. This comes after the state gave districts new funding to ensure students continue learning after a pretty tough last school year. Arts and crafts, lego building, science experiments, and much more are being offered to kids aged kindergarten to 8th grade this summer. The best part for parents? The summer sessions are free. “We have been breaking open rocks, and we have these cool rock kits and check if they’re magnetic and like, look at the different minerals in them,” said incoming 5th graders at Central Point Elementary School, Carter Rosetto and Jackson Broughton. They’re a part of CPE’s Connect Summer Program.

The district says it’s also a preview of what students may see in the fall. MSD says masking requirements are changing, and won’t be required for students or faculty. We’ve also learned, Medford teachers and staff will not be required to be vaccinated. “There is no vaccination requirement for faculty for stuff or for students,” said MSD Superintendent Bret Champion. The Medford School District will not require teachers to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Governor Brown lifted the majority of COVID-19 restrictions at the end of June. Since then, MSD has been crafting what its environment will look like come fall.

MSD s celebrates groundbreaking on historic site for 3rd middle school

MEDFORD, Ore.-Medford School District broke ground today on it’s 3rd middle school. As we told you months ago, it’s coming to a historic site – 815 South Oakdale Avenue. The location has hosted Medford students for almost 100 years. This afternoon the district hosted a groundbreaking ceremony to commemorate the start of renovations, the most significant and expensive of which includes seismic structural upgrades. Throughout the past nine decades, the site has been home to Medford High Schools and the district’s administrative offices. When it opens in August of 2023, the 3 middle schools will free up space at elementary schools, by welcoming in sixth graders into the middle school program.
