East Alton man charged in auto theft Scott Cousins, scousins@thetelegraph.com FacebookTwitterEmail EDWARDSVILLE An East Alton man was charged related to the theft of an auto, among a number of felony charges filed Tuesday by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office. Jacob L. Bruntjen, 33, of East Alton, was charged with offenses relating to motor vehicles, a Class 2 felony. The case was presented by the Metro East Auto Theft Task Force. According to court documents, on May 10 Bruntjen allegedly was found to be in possession of a stolen 1993 Toyota Tacoma. Bail was set at $50,000. Two face weapons charges after Collinsville incident Scott Cousins, scousins@thetelegraph.com FacebookTwitterEmail EDWARDSVILLE Two people face weapons and other charges following an incident just outside of Collinsville. Jose H. Arreola, 22, listed as homeless out of Collinsville, and Mario Mendoza, 22, of Collinsville, were both charged May 6 with aggravated discharge of a firearm, a Class 1 felony. Arreola was also charged with unlawful possession of weapons by a felon, a Class 2 felony, and aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, a Class 4 felony. The cases were presented by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department. According to court documents, on May 2 the two allegedly shot at a building they “should have known” was occupied.

Collinsville felon faces weapons charges Scott Cousins, scousins@thetelegraph.com FacebookTwitterEmail EDWARDSVILLE A Collinsville man faces several weapons-related felony charges after being found in possession of a handgun. Brandon S. Miller, 38, of Collinsville, was charged May 5 with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, a Class 2 felony; and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, a Class 3 felony. The case was presented by the Collinsville Police Department. According to court documents, on May 4 Miller allegedly was found to be in possession of a KelTec .40 caliber handgun in a vehicle without a valid concealed carry permit. It was noted that he has a prior conviction for resisting a peace officer out of St. Clair County in 2005, making him ineligible to own a firearm.
