Rachel Riley has told the High Court that Jeremy Corbyn supporters attempted to get her sacked from her job at
Countdown. The broadcaster said she feared bosses at Channel 4 would terminate her contract after a former Corbyn aide, Laura Murray, said she was “as dangerous as she is stupid”. Riley, who has brought libel proceedings against Murray, said she became victim of a “concerted campaign. to get me fired from my job”. In April 2020, Justice Nicklin ruled that Murray’s tweet was defamatory.

Police investigating the death of PCSO Julia James today searched drains and brought in sniffer dogs to the home of the man charged with her murder.
Forensic teams were at the Aylesham address given by Callum Wheeler, 21, for the fifth day running after his arrest.
He was charged with killing the 53-year-old police officer on Monday night after being arrested on Friday.
Since the start of the weekend police have been at his home searching through the property.
Today was the first time sniffer dogs, used to detect evidence invisible to the naked eye, were used in the procedure.

Police investigating the death of PCSO Julia James have charged a man with her murder.
Ms James, a popular community support officer, was found dead in Akholt Wood near her home in Snowdown, Kent, on April 27.Late on Monday night, police said 21-year-old Callum Wheeler from Aylesham had been charged following his arrest on Friday
Wheeler remains in custody and is due to appear via video link at Medway Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The Kent man charged with the murder of PCSO Julia James stuck out his tongue as he was led away from court this morning - as police staged a reconstruction of the officer s last movements.
Callum Wheeler, 21, from Aylesham, was formally accused of killing the 53-year-old at the hearing.
He appeared at Medway Magistrates Court in person before being remanded back into custody ahead of his case at Maidstone Crown Court on Thursday.
Mrs James, a mother of two, went missing while walking her beloved Jack Russell near to her home in Snowdown, Kent, last month.
She was later found dead by members of the public in nearby Akholt Wood on Tuesday, April 27.
