Hospital-based health care workers will be first to receive vaccines

Montgomery County hospitals are expecting to receive at least 3,900 doses of the new COVID-19 vaccine this week as the first shipments are delivered across the country.
Spokespeople for four local hospitals Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center, Adventist Health Care White Oak Medical Center, Holy Cross Hospital and Holy Cross Germantown Hospital all said on Monday that they expect each facility to receive 975 doses of Pfizer’s vaccine by the middle of this week.
All said the vaccine will first be distributed to front-line health care workers, who generally have the greatest risk of exposure to the virus.

Doctors and nurses around the U.S. are becoming exhausted and demoralized as they struggle to cope with a record-breaking surge of COVID-19 patients that is overwhelming hospitals and prompting governors to clamp back down to contain the virus.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Friday banned indoor dining in New York City, saying he had been waiting in vain for hospitalization rates to stabilize. Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf did the same on Thursday and also suspended school sports and closed gyms, theaters and casinos.
A record of more than 107,000 people were in the hospital in the U.S. with COVID-19 as of Thursday, according to the COVID Tracking Project. More than 290,000 Americans have died of the virus.
Vanessa Strunk is a self-described “boring old lady” who goes to work, shops online and heads home at the end of the day.
A small business owner who runs the Rockville, Maryland-based Green Diva Designs firm, the 58-year-old said she had been taking precautions since the coronavirus pandemic hit in March.
But she never expected to be in a local intensive care unit hearing a doctor tell her that they were doing all they could but that they were hitting the limits of what medicine alone could do.
“I knew at that moment, either I’m going to live or I’m going to die,” Strunk said.
