MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A battle is brewing between the City of Memphis and the union that represents the men and women who pick up the Bluff Cityâs trash.
On Tuesday, Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland proposed a new budget of $716 million which is $8 million more than last yearâs budget.
It contains pay raises for some city workers. And the ones left out of the budget have something to say about it.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - On Tuesday, Memphis City Council members were scheduled to vote on a proposed ordinance adding protections and regulations to pipelines built on top of the Memphis sand aquifer, but in an unexpected move, the council delayed the vote.
The proposed city ordinance would essentially make it impossible to build an oil pipeline through Memphis without getting special permit approval, and create a much more difficult process for the controversial proposed Byhalia Pipeline.
Memphis Mayor Taps a Black Women to Become Memphis Police Chief

Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland chose Durham, North Carolina, Chief of Police Cerelyn “C.J” Davis to become the new chief of police for the Memphis Police Department.
According to
USA Today, the North Carolina officer stood out for her ability to develop a relationship, and Davis claims she did the necessary research to understand Memphis’ unique culture.
“She has an outstanding career in law enforcement as an officer and a leader,” Strickland said, WHBQ-TV, a local Fox-affiliated television station licensed to Memphis, Tennessee, reported. “She has a strategic vision for reducing violent crime and has a record of building relationships with the communities she serves.”
