Private buyer interested in former Laconia State School property

Private buyer interested in former Laconia State School property Published: 7/23/2021 4:44:28 PM More than 200 acres of prime state-owned real estate commanding sweeping views of mountains and water has become a target for private acquisition. Members of a commission charged with planning for the site, once home to the Laconia State School, say a group is working up a purchase offer. “There’s an active group that seems to be very interested in that property but I’m not at liberty to say who they are or what they want to do, but it would be a great thing for the greater community and very good for Laconia. That’s been exciting,” said Rusty McLear, a member of the Lakeshore Redevelopment Planning Commission.

NH Business Review Former Wicwas Lodge property sold in Meredith … and more February 17, 2021 The Currier Museum of Art in Manchester has completed the purchase of the 19th century George Byron Chandler House, which sits across the street from the museum. “The Chandler House is one of the most beautiful Victorian houses in New Hampshire but has been almost unknown,” said Stephen Duprey, president of the museum’s board of trustees. “We can now begin the challenging job of restoring the house so that it can be enjoyed by the community.” The main floor of the house features stained glass windows, original wallpaper and fine wood carving. These areas will be open to the public as an expansion of the museum, specifically to represent New Hampshire in the 19th century. The Chandler House joins the museum’s two houses designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in presenting the architectural heritage of the region.
