Source: AAP/James Ross Victorian Treasurer Tim Pallas has today unveiled the state’s post-pandemic budget, announcing a raft of measures to support small businesses including changes to payroll tax. For small businesses in the state, the payroll tax-free threshold will increase to $700,000 and the regional payroll tax rate will be cut to 1.2%. Treasurer Tim Pallas also announced further funding for wage subsidies, business events, distillery venues, and a plan to revitalise the CBD. “We’re focused on helping those who need it the most vulnerable Victorians, struggling small businesses, job seekers and families,” he said.

The initiative comes in partnership with the Property Council of Australia, which has strongly pushed for workers to return to the office after a year of remote work. Pedestrian traffic was down on average levels on Friday, Lord Mayor Sally Capp said, but she described turnout for the first of four activations as a pleasing result .

Council offers incentives to get people back to work in Melbourne

Melbourne employees are being encouraged to return to the CBD with a range of incentives after more than a year of working from home amid the pandemic.  The City of Melbourne council have offered workers free $50 Myki vouchers, doughnuts, cocktails and cheaper parking as part of its FOMO Fridays incentive.
