Suspicious death investigation underway after woman found dead at Maxwell House

Augusta Chronicle The Richmond County Coroner s and Sheriff s Offices are investigating a suspicious death at Maxwell House Apartments in downtown Augusta. Amanda Shetrone, 38, was pronounced dead at 12:47 a.m. Wednesday. The call came in around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night. According to the sheriff s office, deputies located Shetrone in apartment 918 and were advised Alaric Smith also lived in the apartment. Investigators were able to determine that Shetrone had been dead for more than a day. Smith was charged with concealing a death and further charges could be forthcoming as the investigation progresses.  According to an incident report, a friend of Smith told deputies she had been contacted by him and he told her that Shetrone had not moved from where she had been sleeping on the floor. The friend told deputies she arrived at the apartment and discovered Shetrone was unresponsive and cold to the touch.
