Three in custody following search of Albany residence
ALBANY Three people were taken into custody following a search of an Albany residence on Monday night.
Meigs County Sheriff Keith Wood reported, in a news release, that in the late evening hours of Monday, June 7, agents with the Gallia-Meigs Major Crimes Task Force along with Meigs County Sheriff’s Deputies, officers with the Pomeroy and Middleport Police Departments and the Ohio State Highway Patrol executed a search warrant at 41818 Gibson Ridge Road in Albany.
The search warrant came after a lengthy investigation into the trafficking of drugs coming from the residence.

ROCKSPRINGS National Drug Take Back Day was recently observed with multiple organizations working together to offer drive-thru events in Gallia, Jackson, and Meigs counties, creating a local presence for the drug take back observance.
According to a news release from Holzer Health System, six locations were set up to officially receive outdated or unused prescriptions. These locations were Holzer Meigs Emergency Department, Holzer Cancer Center in Gallipolis, Park’s Edge lot in Jackson, Oak Hill City Building lot in Oak Hill, Parking area near Piggly Wiggly in Wellston, and Village Green Park in Coalton. MEIGS COUNTY, Tenn. Deputies in Meigs County said they are searching for a man who jumped off the second floor of the courthouse to escape after being sentenced to serve time.
According to the Meigs County Sheriff s Office, the man, identified as Rashad Hawkins, escaped after he was sentenced for failing to pay child support.
Pomeroy man convicted of sex crimes against children

POMEROY Following a week-long trial in Meigs County Common Pleas Court, James L. Hess, 53, of Pomeroy, was convicted on six of the seven counts considered by the jury for alleged sexual crimes against four children under the age of 13.
Hess was indicted in October 2018 on four counts of rape, each a first-degree felony; three counts of gross sexual imposition, each a third-degree felony; and one count of gross sexual imposition, a fourth-degree felony. A “nolle prosequi” entry filed before the beginning of jury deliberations dismissed one count of rape, stating that evidence was not produced at trial to support the allegations.
