He said Menulog had started putting up job ads for these roles, and had received applications already.
Belling told the inquiry that Menulog decided to make its workers employees because it needed to “meet its moral obligations” as an originally Australian-developed business.
He was asked whether the change would “destroy” Menulog’s business.
“No,” he said. “Otherwise we wouldn’t go down this path.”
He later added: “There’s a likelihood that this will cost us more. We still think it’s the right decision for us – to lift the standards.”

ReMerge of Oklahoma County showed off its shiny new facility and colorful artwork with a fun social event this week. Making a great evening better, the ArtWalk Celebration came right as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said fully vaccinated people could ditch wearing masks in gatherings. I loved seeing so many smiling faces as I toured the beautiful new building.
Through ticket sales and an art auction, the evening raised $20,492 for ReMerge, which has had success the last 11 years providing treatment, recovery and hope for mothers facing incarceration. Included in that amount was a match up to $5,000 from the McLaughlin Family Foundation.

Food delivery giants including Menulog and Deliveroo have committed to 50 new safety measures ahead of the release of a report into the industry that will recommend regulatory changes by the NSW government to reduce worker deaths.
NSW Better Regulation Minister Kevin Anderson on Wednesday revealed the report, sparked by multiples deaths of riders on Sydney’s roads, would contain recommendations for regulatory updates when it is released in coming weeks.
Safety of food delivery cyclists has been in the spotlight after a spate of deaths in Sydney.
The committee chair, Labor MP Daniel Mookhey
, said SafeWork NSW had shown parliament an improvement notice given to Uber that said one of those riders had used an e-bike that was not approved for use in the state. Another who died was using a helmet that was not approved for NSW, according to SafeWork.
“The deceased had not been provided with adequate information, instruction and training on the risks related to operating a motorcycle for commercial purposes on roadways, and the requirement to wear a compliant helmet,” one SafeWork notice said.
“A fatality on 23.11.20 … involved the use of an e-bike that appeared to not be approved for use on any road or road-related area in NSW,” said another.
