Adult education graduates encouraged to continue chasing dreams

Adult education graduates encouraged to continue chasing dreams View Comments MANSFIELD - The 117 adults who earned their diplomas Thursday night from Mansfield City Schools were encouraged to never stop chasing their dreams. The work that you put into this program is the perfect foundation to last you a lifetime, Stan Jefferson, the district s superintendent, told the graduates. Only a portion of the number honored could attend Thursday since the program was for both the class of 2021 and the class of 2020, which had its original graduation postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Still, the superintendent wanted them all to know that going back to school to obtain their diplomas was an honorable task.

Crestview gets a determined superintendent

Grubbs moved around throughout his childhood, attending Mansfield City Schools. We were very poor, Grubbs said. That helps me with who I am, I’ve lived a tough life in that way. When he was a junior at Mansfield Senior High School, he signed up for a class called auto tech. After a week, he decided he did not want to continue on that track. My guidance councilor said something along the lines of you aren t smart enough to be in machine trades. Grubbs left school and did not return for almost eight weeks. He went to Kentucky to live with his dad, who encouraged him to go back.

She was all smiles outside the school, her bright future, like her peers, before her. I played volleyball and basketball, said Brown, 18, as she was surrounded by friends and family hugging her. Looking to the future, Brown said she is majoring in management and minoring in marketing at the University of Kentucky and can t wait to go to college. Graduate Shanniyah Cotton, 17, was posing for photographs with family, holding a big armful of balloons.

One step closer : Mansfield reacts to guilty verdict in Chauvin trial

It s one step closer to realizing that our lives do matter as well, Williams said.  When I say Black Lives Matter, it s not to negate anyone else s life. In fact, it is in support of the statement that all lives matter. After deliberating for about 10 hours over two days, the jury on Tuesday found Chauvin guilty of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter for the killing of George Floyd, who died last year on Memorial Day after Chauvin knelt on his neck for more than nine minutes. It s hard enough to watch someone who s lived a full life pass on, Williams continued.  But when you see someone senselessly lose their life, that s much more difficult to deal with, I don t care what you look like.
