The British government has finalised one billion British pound worth of trade and investment with India, creating over 6,500 jobs in Britain, ahead of the virtual summit between UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi today.

The officials added that British businesses have also secured new export deals with India worth more than £446 million.
Trade and investment worth £1 billion are to be announced on Tuesday during a virtual summit meeting between Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, including a £240 million investment by the Serum Institute of India in the United Kingdom.
The two prime ministers were due to meet in January and April, but the Covid-19 pandemic prevented Johnson from travelling to New Delhi on his first post-Brexit foreign visit as the UK seeks to forge new trade ties and global path for itself outside the European Union.

Business council eyes potential in free trade pact
The India-UK Virtual Summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his British counterpart Boris Johnson on Tuesday should provide more details on the ‘Enhanced Trade Partnership’ initiated last year that could pave the way to a potential Free Trade Agreement (FTA), the UK-India Business Council (UKIBC) has said.
Better market access “Businesses are looking forward to the governments implementing an Enhanced Trade Partnership that addresses market access barriers in the short- and medium-term and begins the journey to an eventual FTA. We expect to see a change in the volume and nature of the trade and investment,” the UKIBC said in a release on Monday.
