Mardi Graf-ton parade planned on the riverfront

GRAFTON Let the good times roll on the river at the second annual Mardi Gras-fton and parade.
Revelers can stand or stroll along Main Street and check out unique shops, wineries, bars and restaurants, many of which will join the celebration with specials and giveaways. A Bangin’ Noise Parade parade starts at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at Drifters, 1505 W. Main St.
“We’ve been in contact with IDOT (Illinois Department of Transportation) and IDOT’s Joe Monroe said to be safe and be smart,” Grafton Mayor Rick Eberlin said. “It’s masks up and keep your distance. If people are fearful, they won’t be there.”

The Grafton City Council has issued permits for a couple of events planned for the coming months. Traditionally the host of one of the more popular fireworks displays in the Riverbend, Mayor Rick Eberlin tells The Big Z that event is moving ahead for the Independence Day Holiday.

Eberlin says the attitude among most businesses in town is an optimistic one, looking forward to getting through the winter and beginning a new tourist season in the spring.

With a new ownership group at Raging Rivers Waterpark in Grafton, the city’s mayor is excited about the future. The waterpark will retain much of what you’ve seen there in the past, but plans are to add a water slide with three hidden chambers.

This week, the United States moved closer to creating a Resilience Revolving Loan Fund for states and local governments. It’s said to be one of the most valuable resilience tools across the entire federal portfolio. The legislation allows states to offer low-interest loans to counties and cities for disaster mitigation projects.
Grafton Mayor Rick Eberlin says the fund is critical to towns still struggling to recover from the Flood of 2019.
