Along with the declaration, Woodward proposed several priority actions designed to improve housing availability, including incentives for converting commercial buildings into residential spaces, using revenue made available through state legislation, shortening review processes for residential projects and augmenting staff with consultants to help with developments. “We are at a crossroads in our community and with this proclamation I am taking immediate action to address the critical housing needs in our city,” said Woodward. “These initial steps will take advantage of some existing market momentum and help sustain it.”

She received it at Gonzaga’s vaccination clinic, saying both shots were painless and urged others to join her to move Spokane and the state forward. “And we heard from the Governor today, we get to that 70 percent of first initiated vaccines we’re open, and I think we can do it before June 30th,” Woodward said. While the state has been in-pause for the past week-and-a-half, she said the city has been working hard to create pop-up clinics, opportunities for people to get vaccinated and make getting a vaccine more convenient and accessible.

Spokane Mayor Nadine Woodward and other local leaders are urging Washington Governor Jay Inslee to keep the county in Phase 3 of the state s reopening plan ahead of an announcement next week.  In a press release on Friday, leaders from the Downtown Spokane Partnership (DSP) said the nonprofit s board voted on Wednesday to support Woodward in a request to Inslee that he refrain from moving Spokane County back to Phase 2 of the Healthy Washington plan and allow the county time to execute an aggressive vaccination campaign.
