Trial begins for Pueblo man accused of dismembering mother
PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) In October of 2020, Anthony Cuevas was arrested for first-degree murder after police investigators said he killed his mother, Mary Cuevas-Garcia, and then chopped up her body parts, put them in suitcases, and scattered them across Pueblo.
Tuesday, 36-year-old Cuevas appeared in court and is set to stand a jury trial in the coming weeks. For much of Tuesday, the judge initiated a voir dire process, which ensures jurors in a case do not have a conflict of interest with any potential witness or party in the case.
