Francis Sherlock, 30, of 43 Glendaniel, Tullamore, admitted having cannabis herb for sale or supply at Henry Apartments, Church Street, Clara on June 12 last year. Mr Sherlock also pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis herb at 43 Glendaniel on February 15 last. Sergeant James O Sullivan said 16 grams of cannabis worth €260, weighing scales and a mobile phone were found when the premises at Church Street in Clara was searched.

Laois man allegedly bit garda on leg Reporter:   ); A man who allegedly bit a garda on the leg was remanded on continuing bail at Portlaoise district court last Thursday. David Kearney, 35, of Tonduff, Abbeyleix is charged with assault causing harm at Tonduff on February 2, 2021. Judge Mary Cashin accepted jurisdiction in the case after Sgt JJ Kirby outlined to the court that Gardaí attended at the address at Tonduff on February 2 where Mr Kearney was reported to be in breach of an order. Mr Kearney was asleep in a bedroom. The Gardaí were in full uniform. When arresting him, Mr Kearney allegedly made a drive at members and bit Garda Donovan on the lower left leg and broke skin.

Woman attempted to smuggle tablets into Laois prison Reporter:   ); A woman who attemppted to smuggle tablets into the Midlands Prison Portlaoise had her case adjourned at Portlaoise district court last week. Justina Bugyte, 25, of Rearymore, Rosenallis was charged with conveying an article into the Midlands Prison on February 15, 2020 Sgt JJ Kirby outlined that during a search at the Midlands Prison on the date in question a large volume of tablets had been found. Ms Bugyte was fully co-operative. The tablets were not controlled drugs under the Misuse of Drugs Act. She had been visiting her ex partner. Defence Counsel Suzanne Dooner said that Ms Bugyte’s ex partner was the father of her two children. She had been under pressure to bring an item into the prison.
