Maryborough is shining ⦠here is a couple of major attractions on the national stage, up against quite a lot of competition, he said. The mural piece was a very heavily competitive category ⦠the fact the Maryborough Mural Project was recognised with a silver award is great kudos to the committee. Mr Simons said both attractions were fantastic examples of community coming together to create art, setting Maryborough apart with a can do attitude.

Two of Maryboroughâs major attractions have been named finalists in the 2020 Australian Street Art Awards.
The Gallipoli to Armistice Memorial has been short-listed for the Best Monument or Memorial gong, while the Maryborough Mural Trail is a Best Street Art Trail contender.
The winners in all eight Australian Street Art Awards categories will be announced on March 2.
âThe awards showcase destinations like Maryborough that are using outdoor art to transform their street scapes, while educating Australians about the magnificent array of publicly-accessible art that can be found in every corner of the country,â awards director Liz Rivers said.
Premium Content A celebration of Maryborough s military heroes is set to be held next month. The event will be held on February 25 from 10am and has been put together by the Maryborough Mural Project, members of the Butchulla community and the Maryborough Military and Colonial Museum. The project in conjunction with its community partners have now completed its mural program for the museum, Deborah Hannam, the co-founder of the mural project initiative, said. Murals have now been completed for indigenous soldier Wilfred Walter Reeves, who completed active service in the 39th Infantry Battalion on the Kokoda Trail in Papua New Guinea in 1942, Reverend Philip Thomas Byard Clayton an army chaplain who served during World War One and Frank Lawrence, Maryborough s most decorated World War Two veteran.
